Id10ts - In the Gold Room
ID10TS (can be pronounced Idiots) is a new experimental beats project that features Andrei Antonets from Alexandroid whose ‘Short Cuts’ was one of the many overlooked masterpieces released on the Lo Recordings label some years ago, along with the vocals of Pavel Kamakin who is art director of 16tons,one of the best clubs in Moscow and Ilya Shapovalov who according to Rolling Stone (Russian edition) is one of the top 5 guitar players in Russia. So a whole heap of talent on one black disc.
The original ‘Gold Room’ track is an extended mystical meditation with a spoken intro courtesy of the legendary Sun Ra whose wise words lead you into a new musical world where skewed electronics glide over persistent beats and delicate guitars chime along with harmonic male vocals that recall Brian Eno, Talking Heads and maybe Tarwater.
This is followed by the inimitable DJ Koze doing his funky thing like only he can, turning the original into an essential piece of leftfield dance music that’s perfect for summer.
Next up we find low end techno from deeply respected Russian outfit Easy Changes, this duo have released a huge amount of quality electronic music on labels like Foundsound,Nervmusic,Esperanza and Igloo.
After this we have a beautiful and truly cosmic disco interpretation by upcoming Russian Disco muse Alla Farmer. It’s a real shame we couldn’t squeeze this one on the vinyl, it’s ACE!
Lastly but by no means leastly we have a mix from Berlin’s legendary Beaner whose twisted electronic funk squeezes the last drop of goodness from the ripe red grapes that can be found only in the The Gold Room.
