Lilith Ai - Riot
Following on from her acclaimed debut single, London based singer, musician and illustrator Lilith Ai returns with ‘Riot’, a 4-track EP and book created with photographer and fashion model Georgia May Jagger. Featuring illustrations, song lyrics and poetry by Lilith and Georgia’s photography, ‘Riot – Notebook’ is an inspiring, intimate, angry, playful book that embraces the DIY philosophy and positivity of the Riot Grrrl scene.
“I’ve always liked drawing little comic book strips and wanted to make a kind of “riot grrrl” fanzine to go with the EP as I find the Riot Grrrl movement really inspiring.” explains Lilith. “I’d started work on it last January when my mate Georgia was moving house, I was helping her unpack and saw these really beautiful photos. I asked who had taken them and she said she had and got out a bunch of old binders full of all these wicked snaps she had done.”
“Right away I told her I was doing this fanzine and had to include her photos and it just grew naturally from there. We put in some blank page’s so all the riot grrrls n fan boys can doodle and write their own stuff in it and then what was originally was going to be a 8 page black n’ white zine just grew into this 148 page colour book.”

Accompanying the book is a 4 track EP from Lilith featuring her previous double AA single, ’Hang Tough / Yeah Yeah’, hailed as “sharply poetic” by Clash and a “gritty soul redemption song” by NME and two brand new tracks, ‘Riot’ and ‘Catfish’.The EP’s (and by extension book’s) title track ‘Riot’ is Lilith’s most direct tribute to date to the Riot Grrrl scene that was such an inspiration to both herself and the other artists in her ‘Fights Like a Girl’ collective, it’s chorus an explicit cry for ‘revolution’.
‘Catfish’ meanwhile reveals a more reflective side to Lilith’s character. Stripped bare and accompanied by just her guitar Lilith sings of love, loss, betrayal and seeing through the lies of others with the power, poise and authority of a voice that belies its tender years.
Fearless and fearsome, as a musician, singer, artist and club promoter Lilith exemplifies a new scene of female artists inspired by the Riot Grrrl scene of the ‘90s but resolutely doing their own thing. Already championed by BBC 6 Music’s Tom Ravenscroft, Lilith Ai is the perfect antidote to the stuffy boy’s own scene of the indie world.
