Astronauts - Breakout
‘Breakout’ is the third and final single from ‘End Codes’, the recent well-received second album from Dan Carney aka Astronauts.
It’s a bustling, pulsing, exhilarating thing. Tumbling beats, bleeps, and creaky acoustics underpin Dan’s trademark soaring vocal harmonies, simultaneously lilting and relentless, reassuring and accusatory, sunny and dark. If you like Dan’s other stuff, you’ll bloody love this.
It comes backed by two cracking remixes. Firstly, Rich Thair from UK jazz/electronic legends Red Snapper exhilaratingly splices the vocal and lilting melodies of the original with layer upon layer of shuffling, rolling breaks. Then we’ve got electronic protégé Pesky Youth, just sixteen years old, whose intricate, abstract reworking of ‘End Codes’ track ‘Hider’ massively belies his tender years. Expect more from this lad in the future.
We like ‘Breakout’ very much and hope you do too. Dan is already working on the third Astronauts album, ahead of more European gigs in the autumn, but is – as ever – available for interviews, playlists, male grooming product endorsements, and slightly awkward personal appearances.
