Seeland - Goodbye

Seeland was formed by Tim Felton (ex Broadcast) and Billy Bainbridge (ex Plone) in the winter of 2004/05 amid the fallout from Birmingham’s ‘Retro Futurist Electronic scene’ – a group of musicians and artists
inspired by space age pop, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Joe Meek and eccentric 60’s library music.

Fusing their Krautrock influences (afterall, they are named after a Neu! track) and a love of all things exotica, ‘Goodbye’ showcases Seeland’s ability to take all those strings and things and combine them
into their familiar but strange soundworld. Unlike their contemporaries from Seeland is not dominated by ‘retro-ism’, but use their complex analogue pop sound to create something fresh, catchy and accessible.
Imagine to yourself what would have happen if the Byrds and Kraftwerk were to collaborate on a song in the penthouse office of the Brill Building.

The b-side, ‘Tears of an Architect’ is a 10+ minute epic opus, comprised of 4 sub-sections. Moving sharply between a (Delia) Derbyshire-esque drone, tape manipulation a-la ‘the faust tapes’ and British medieval
horror folk in the style of Paul Giovanni’s Wicker Man soundtrack.

‘Tomorrow Today manages to be both aesthetically intriguing and totally accessible almost radio-friendly - which in our view is quite an achievmement. Seeland might just have made the first great underground pop album of ‘09.’ Fact Magazine

‘This is Indie Pop for a new century that still tips its hat to the old one”
Plan B

“Tomorrow Today is an original and refreshingly optimistic piece of work and a odd title for an album that makes the present feel so nostalgic.” The Music Magazine

“Lovely Stuff” Music Week

“Simply Sublime Melodic Synth-Pop” Q Magazine
